My Organs Lying on the Ground
In a cave it awakes. It has the appearance of a human being, but it is nothing more than an empty puppet. As it encounters insects, animals, grass, grain, and all other things in the surrounding world, it absorbs vitality and gradually becomes alive. As the boundaries between itself and others are blended, it realizes the cycle of life and death.
Shinobu Soejima
Shinobu Soejima produces video works, stop motion animation films, photographs and sculptures. She define animation as "the power to bring back from death to life”, and try to create a vision of a possible spiritual dimension.
She is inspired by the tension between the visible and the invisible. Or the physical and the metaphysical. In this way, she has been researching stop-motion animation expressions by using puppets and organic materials that decay over time, such as meat, grains, insects, and so on.
She won several awards at domestic and international film festivals, including the 68th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen Special Mention by Ecumenical Jury, the 22nd Japan Media Art Festival -Jury’s prize and so on.
