Voices Between the Frames
Performance by Thomas Johnson and Adam Butcher

At this year’s Animafest Thomas Johnson Volda will return to create a new durational puppet animation performance.
During this 10-hour performance, Johnson’s collaborator Adam Butcher shall type out spoken words from the audience which will be incorporated into this visual live animation. Throughout the performance, whilst Thomas animates his puppet self, a mask consisting of the small pieces of typed paper will be gradually formed over the animator's head.
Guests are encouraged to converse with the performers and have their voices incorporated into the performance.

Thomas Johnson (Bath, England, 1984) graduated in Time Based Media from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. To date, his puppet performances have been shown at a number of festivals. Together with Ivana Bošnjak at Bonobostudio, Thomas co-directed two award-winning stop-motion short films, Simulacra (2014) and Imbued Life (2019). Both films have screened at Animafest Zagreb, while Imbued Life received Special Award at the discretion of the Short Film Jury and Special Mention at the discretion of the Croatian Competition Jury.
Adam Butcher (1986) graduated in Animation from the Solent University, England, specialising in traditional animation. He has worked at Bonobostudio in Zagreb and Studio 352 in Luxembourg and has authored a number of short films which were screened at various festivals. He continues to drink coconut tea and work in various roles on feature films at Studio 352.
