The selection committee, composed of Daniel Šuljić, Antonia Begušić, and Eugen Bilankov, recognized the exceptional contribution of this school to contemporary animation through a diverse, powerful, and uncompromising body of student work.
Over the years, Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF Film University has established itself as a space that fosters creative expression while maintaining precision in execution and a strong emotional narrative. Its filmmaking practice stands out with a distinct and cohesive artistic voice. This year’s selection of films to be featured in Animafest's Student Film Competition - Floating, Opto Optics, and I Am a Flower - demonstrates the school’s dedication to technical excellence and compelling storytelling.
These films reflect original artistic visions, blending thoughtful narration with meticulously crafted animation techniques. Their striking visual impact stems from both the filmmakers’ skill and the careful construction of emotional and dramatic depth.
A selection of the school's best films will be presented as a special program of the World Festival of Animated Film - Animafest Zagreb 2025, offering the festival audience a window into the breadth and richness of the school’s artistic expression. This program further solidifies Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF Film University as one of animation's leading educational institutions - one that encourages students to explore, innovate, and push the boundaries of the medium. These values are essential in contemporary animation, which embraces complex techniques while fearlessly addressing relevant themes on personal, social, and political levels.
