Synopsis
Bambi Meets Godzilla was made in 1969 by Marv Newland while a student of Los Angeles Art Center College of Design. It is a black and white film directed, animated and shot on a 16mm Bolex camera. It was made using the most simple and near primitive production methods available in 1969. The animation is line drawn in black and white resembling the techniques used by Winsor McCay to make Gertie the Dinosaur in 1915. Nevertheless, Bambi Meets Godzilla has become a well known animated film throughout the world and has been named to Best of lists on numerous occasions. It is included in the book, The 50 Greatest Cartoons, by Jerry Beck and inspired the title of writer and film director David Mamet’s (2007) book, Bambi Versus Godzilla.
