Synopsis
‘I once read somewhere that the modernist classic Last Year at Marienbad by Alain Resnais and Alain Robbe-Grillet was secretly inspired by the Adolfo Bioy Casares’ novel, The Invention of Morel. This film is a loose improvisation of the mentioned works. As a challenge, I’ve decided to create my own adaptation by using just excerpts of text and images from various old comics and magazines. Besides that some of the collages perfectly highlighted the essence of the story about Doctor Morel and his diabolical invention that turns people into ‘living’ images or holograms, and a couple of anthology moments from the aforementioned Last Year at Marienbad, film has underlying and twisted surrealist humour. The soundtrack is music by Louis and Bebe Barron from the film Forbidden Planet and Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird.’ D. B.
