Ferenc Mikulás was born in 1940. In 1957 – because of his participation in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 – he was dismissed from secondary school. Then he worked as an unskilled worker and later as a geodetic surveyor. He wrote scripts and directed short films. From 1970 he was getting acquainted with animated films at the Pannónia Film Studio. Since 1 June 1971 he has been the Head of the Kecskemét Animation Studio. Several series and short films were produced based on his ideas. Since 1993 he has been the Director of the Kecskemét Animation Film Festival which was started on his initiative in 1985. KAFF became an international festival in 1996 by inviting European animated features and TV specials into the competition. Between 1997-2000 he was a member of the Board of Directors of ASIFA (Association of International Animation Film Artists). He was a member of the jury at several festivals in the world.
