Synopsis
Thumbeline and Fingerita live alone with their mother at the edge of a forest overlooking a village. Thumbeline, a rather sulky teenager, isn’t as helpful as her little sister Fingerita who willingly offers to go and gather firewood in the forest. When her hat falls into an old well, she climbs down to get it and discovers the enchanting world of Old Mother Snow, who makes the snow fall every time she shakes her eiderdown.
Born in 1966 in Belgium, Arnaud Demuynck is a film director, producer and scriptwriter specialized in short and medium-length animated films. Since his L'Ecluse (The Lock), a short choreographic fiction film made in 2000, he has written and directed many animated films, including a choreographic trilogy made up of Signs of Life (2004), The Shadow of the Veil (2006) and Breakout (2007), followed by a poetic trilogy co-directed with Christophe Gautry La Vita Nuova, The Lunatic Council and An Interrupted Spectacle. With Under Blue Skies (2009), he started writing films for younger audiences, either based on traditional stories and nursery rhymes, or adapted to animation from kid's books.
After obtaining a DMA at the ESAAT, Célia Tisserant worked with Nicolas Liguori on his film The Wind in the Reeds. In 2018, she co-directed with Celia Tocco her first short film, The Golden Tortoise, and then The Little Red Chick in 2019 and Old Mother Snow with Arnaud Demuynck in 2020. All these films were released in short film programmes in the French cinemas.
