Hanna van Niekerk (1991, La Paz, Bolivia) is a Dutch director and screenwriter. With her graduation film, Hanna won the Wildcard Fiction Prize from the Netherlands Film Fund, which enabled her to realize her debut film If the Sun Explodes (2015). This film premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival 2016 where it won the MovieZone Youth Jury Award. It was also shown in movie theaters in the Netherlands, after which it received rave reviews from Dutch newspapers. In 2017, Hanna created the short fairy tale Soap, which was shown at film festivals worldwide. Hanna recently directed the 15-part web series Anne Frank Video Diary (2020), which can be seen online in more than 60 countries.
