Thomas Johnson: Cleansing Ritual Number 2 Clay

This 12 hour performance animation work is the second of an undetermined series in which the performer animates a stop-motion puppet to perform a manifestation of self-healing. The performer and the puppet present a physical ritual of cleansing ones skin and the metaphysical dynamics of time in which there is an examination of the duality of an animated film and live performance. During the 12 hour performance an animated self-portrait puppet shovels green clay into a hopper, where it falls into a glass jar and is mixed with water and then applied to the head of the performer.
