Boris Kolar: Sjećanja i razmišljanja jednog Zagrepčanca

05/06 TUE 18:00 h FRENCH INSTITUTE MEDIATHEQUE

Boris Kolar (Zagreb, 13 April 1933) is a Croatian animator, director, screenwriter, caricaturist, illustrator and set designer. He studied architecture in Zagreb and began his career as an illustrator and caricaturist at Kerempuh and different newspapers. In 1952 Zora Studio produced Little Red Riding Hood, the first animated film in colour around here, and 18-year-old Kolar was the storyboard artist. Soon he began a fruitful career as lead graphic artist, screenwriter, animator and set designer. For all the films he worked on Kolar found a suitable expression, skilfully avoiding the trap of repeating a visual expression. In Filmska kultura magazine, in April 1963 he published an article under the title Nove teze (New Hypotheses), discussing the role, place and issues in animation. In 1964 he completed the short scientific propaganda film Neman i vi, commissioned by UNICEF. The same year he worked on the hit film Vau-vau as a writer, director, graphic artist and animation, as well as in Otkrovitelj, Dijalog (live action and animation), Mikromanija etc. Next to Ante Zaninović, Zlatko Grgić and Zlatko Bourek, between 1968 and 1977 he worked on the Professor Balthazar serial, and Tomica Simović composed the score. Professor Balthazar was a huge commercial success and sold to many countries, from Scandinavia to Iran.
