Synopsis
Mental Black Hole is a three-channel projection and attempt to take viewers into the brain of a depression patient and experience their vision. There are a lot of metallic components in the visual and audio contents like hardware, foil, nails, etc. to manifest a visceral painful feeling that depressed people possessed. Liquidity of ink in this work serves as an organic, flowing and invisible brain process from amygdala and hippocampus.
Animation installation artist Zoey Lin's works manifest the nature of coexistence between solid "surface layer" and flowing "underlying layer" in diverse subjects from psychology, biology to social issues. She collages physical objects, textures or sensational memories to observe their dynamics and orders for creating animation contents like animation installation Mental Black Hole (2016). Currently, she is utilizing the photogrammetry technique to alloy physical and virtual components in the making of immersive VR experiences and hybrid animation.
