Synopsis
This story is based on an ancient northern legend according to which the souls of the drowned people turn into sea animals. The Hunter steals a seal-girl’s skin, so she can’t turn back into an animal. She becomes his wife, but often she glances at the sea.
Anna Budanova is a Russian filmmaker and graphic artist. She was born in Ekaterinburg, she studied at the Graphics and Animation Department at the Ural State Architecture and Arts Academy and worked as an artist and animator, taking part in the making of various films. In 2013 she made her first professional film called The Wound which went on to win more than 20 international awards including Annecy and Hiroshima special prizes. In 2015 she was one of three selected artists for the artist in residence programme organised by JAPIC in Tokyo with her film project Among the Black Waves.
