Synopsis
Red of the Yew Treeis the crossing of a feminine and universal imagination, an odyssey inked in fine point. A pheasant hunt is the occasion of a voyage that is at once delicate and mightily evocative, under the breath of maternal love and the transmission of a shared feminine condition. It is a vast intimate adventure unfolding, as equivocal as it is precise, through an intuitive hunt and a recovered collective memory.
Born in 1971 in Joliette, Québec, Marie-Hélène Turcotte has lived and worked in Montréal since 1998. Trained in architecture, she splits her practice between drawing and animated filmmaking. She is noted for the fineness of her lines, favouring evocation over narration. Her first animated film, The Formation of Clouds, was produced by the NFB in 2010, to critical acclaim. It was screened at several national and international festivals, garnering three prizes and distinctions in 2011, of which the Golden Horseman Animated Film for best animated film, at the Dresden FILMFEST.
