Synopsis


Quimtaiis a play of geometrical forms, patterns, rhythms and sounds. It is an abstract animation engraved directly onto 35mm black lead film with laser. Influenced by the German Abstract or Pure Cinema movement of the 1920s and pre-Colombian patterns of the now extinct Tairona and Quimbaya indigenous cultures of Colombia. 

Camilo Colmenares


Camilo Colmenares (1976, Bogotá, Colombia) graduated from the Film School of the National University of Colombia in 2004. He is a founding member of Laboratorio Kinoclaje (Colombian film recycling association). In 2014 he finished his postgraduate studies at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM). Quimtai is his graduation project at the KHM. He co-founded the animation studio Vamos Animation in 2016 and obtained a start-up grant by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
