Altneuland / Altneuland
Sariel Keslasi
Israel / 2012 / 6' 32''Screenings
Synopsis
The film is a subjective interpretation of the utopian novel Altneuland, written by Benjamin Theodor Herzl. By using a surrealist allegory, the film tries to deal with the collapse of that dream and seeks to emphasize the sense of absurdity and instability of my personal experience as an individual and as part of the Israeli society.
Sariel Keslasi studied animation at the Department of Screen-based Arts at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. Altneuland is his graduation film, which participated in many different festivals around the world, including the prestigious Cannes and Annecy festivals in France. Since his graduation, Sariel has taken part in working on Ari Folman's new film, The Congress, and is currently writing an animation feature film.
