LECTURE: Rhythm inthe drawn film - Antoni Trayanov

Antoni Trayanov worked on more than a hundred animated films in Bulgaria. Smart Village, De Facto, Fair Play, The Merry Men and many others have won numerous festival awards, while the series Three Fools is undoubtedly the most famous Bulgarian animation ever. He insists that rhythm is of crucial importance for the art of animation. In this lecture he will draw in front of the audience, sharing practical experience from his work. The following will be discussed: When does a drawing stay for one, two or three frames on screen? How to accelerate the action in the plot? How to keep the action consistent when the shot changes from mid-plane to close-up? Controlling different speeds of objects and panning. The lecture will be accompanied by intriguing film samples.
