BeomSik Shimbe Shim grew up in South Korea. He majored in fine art and held several exhibitions and media art shows in Seoul and New York. He moved to the USA in 2003 to work on his own animated shorts, after studying experimental  animation at CalArts. His personal shorts were screened at many film festivals in various countries, along with SIGGRAPH (US), Arcipelago IFF (Italy), LA County Museum of Arts (U.S.), Asia Digital Art Award (Japan), Neuchatel IFF (Switzerland). In addition to The Wonder Hospital, he made The Anamorphosis Trap (2008) and PGi-13 (2004).
