Animafest Weekend for Children!

During the last two days, the Animafest gives you the possibility of unforgettable fun and enjoyment with a series of fifty animated short film adventures for children.

Your Animafest Saturday can begin at 11am with the Family Programme including seven short animated films. The same programme was specially designed for children of different age groups and their parents, depicting joys and problems of everyday family life and motivating both children and parents to consider serious and amusing social issues. A unique entertainment for the entire family!

One feature-length work is scheduled for 1pm – Raining Cats and Frogs by French director Jacques-Remy Girerd. This is a story of an unusual farm atop of a hillside, threatened by a great danger, the first feature film by Folimage studio, a true masterpiece that took six years to complete courtesy of the effort of over 200 people.

The next animated adventure is scheduled for 4pm, in the shape of a charming fox – Fantastic Mr. Fox by Wes Anderson, whose head storyboard artist, Christian De Vita, will join us at the festival. The films recounts the story of Mr. Fox (voice of George Clooney), endangered after three angry farmers and most dangerous enemies this experienced chicken thief ever encountered decide to eliminate him and his entire family.

The World Studios programme at 6pm brings you the films by the French studio Folimage, creating children’s films for more than 25 years. The programme entitled Folimage – children’s films represents the best possible selection from their rich repertory, short films suitable for children.

A new batch of films from the world animation factory Aardman is scheduled for 8pm. This is another opportunity to take a look at original works by Nick Park and Peter Lord (Creature Comforts and War Story), animated films including edited audience interviews attached in order to create action. For all those who might have missed it, this is a unique opportunity to see The Pearce Sisters by Luis Cook, the 2008 Animafest Grand Prix winner.

Sunday brings you two screenings: an ideal Sunday morning show is the rerun of the Folimage programme – children’s films at 10am and seven family titles as an excellent family treat at 4pm.

Aside from films, we remind you of other special events and workshops for children. Saturday, 5 June at 10am at the Movieplex entrance hall Small Animation Workshop will be held. All the interested kids will get a chance to try out making their own animated film. Everyone is welcome, no application needed. The trainer is Vjekoslav Živković.

The next day, 6 June, from 10am till noon at the Educarena playhouse of the Kaptol Centre, another workshop is scheduled, providing more concrete possibility of exploring the bases of animation, intended for children age 5-12. The participants will have the opportunity to make their first stop-motion animations in cut-out, sand and watercolour. The trainers are Jadranko Lopatić, Vjekoslav Živković and Jasminka Bijelić.
