When the film The Phantom of the Cinemabreaks, the light behind the screen is turned on and the audience is witness to the struggles of a cinema-owner, the lavatory attendant and the technician. In an attempt to start the screening again they tumble through their chambers behind the screen. This film is Erik van Schaaik's second movie in what will be a trilogy of films using silhouettes.
Erik van Schaaik (1968) started making film at age twelve. During his study graphic design at the academy of arts, Erik started working for Dutch television, creating a series of animation films, live action drama and documentaries, always using a variety of styles and techniques. After graduating, Erik continued in the field of children's television, creating (e.g.) the popular series Sausage Dog Titus. Erik is well experienced in every aspect of filmmaking, from camera operating to high tech computer animation, from film scoring to producing. Vent (2004), his first independent film, was screened and awarded at various festivals, and he is currently working on a Ultra Short project Pecker.
