Synopsis

Bambi Meets Godzilla was made in 1969 by Marv Newland while a student of Los Angeles Art Center College of Design, six years prior to establishment of the International Rocketship Limited animation studio. Bambi Meets Godzillais a black and white film directed, animated and photographed by Marv Newland. The picture was shot on a 16mm Bolex Camera. The film has been seen in animation and film festivals throughout the world and continues to be screened worldwide on television, in cinemas, on the internet and has been excerpted in at least three live action and documentary films. Bambi Meets Godzillawas made using the most simple and near primitive production methods available in 1969. The animation is line drawn in black and white resembling the techniques used by Winsor McCay to make Gertie the Dinosaurin 1915. Nevertheless, Bambi Meets Godzillahas become a well known animated film throughout the world and has been named to Best Of lists on numerous occasions. It is included in the book, The 50 Greatest Cartoons, by Jerry Beck and inspired the title of writer and film director David Mamet’s (2007) book, Bambi Versus Godzilla.
