Branka Benčić is an independent curator. She founded Cinemaniac/Think Film at Pula Film Festival in Croatia, exhibition series and research platform for artist film and video (since 2002); Artists’ Cinema series at the Museum of Contemporary art in Zagreb (since 2012), and she is artistic director at Apoteka Space for Contemporary Art. Some of her exhibitions are Paper Movies - Collage and Film (2014); Think Film (2013); Invisible MAFAF and alternative film practices in ex Yugoslavia (2010); Architecture and Cinema (2009); Babette Mangolte, films and photography (2008). As an independent curator she has curated exhibitions and screening programs in Croatia and internationally including: Damir Očko - Studies on Shivering (Künstlerhaus KM–, Halle für Kunst & Medien, Graz, 2014), Notes on Undoing (Garis&Hahn, New York, 2014); Video Television Anticipation (Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade, 2013, with A. Sekulić); Strategies of self-representation in Croatian video art since 1970s (Marseille, 2012), Clueless Geometry of Misunderstanding (Torino, 2010). She holds MA in History of Art and MA in Comparative literature, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. Branka Benčić delivered talks and lectures on contemporary art and exhibiting film/video at Tate Modern London, RU New York, MSU Zagreb, MoCA Belgrade, Halle für Kunst, Lüneburg, KM Graz, and publishes regularly on contemporary art and film/video in exhibition catalogues, books and journals. She served as a jury member at several festival and events such as Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, YVAA - Radoslav Putar Award, 25 FPS Festival Zagreb, KulturKontakt Vienna.
