Exhibition opening - Dušan Vukotić Vud - A Man Who Was Playing
06/01/2010

 Dear audience,
we would like to invite you to join us at the opening of the exhibition Dušan Vukotić Vud - A Man Who Was Playing which will be held on Tuesday, June 2 at 10 pm in Lotrščak Tower.

Dušan Vukotić – director, screenwriter, animator, designer, caricaturist, “the one who got an Oscar”. That same one who won the first non-American Oscar is dedicated an exhibition displaying not simply a classic overview of his work and fascinating results of a fruitful career, but also relations between creativity and inspiration. Dušan Vukotić’s eternal inspiration was play; playing with techniques, styles, directing, visuals, music. Everything in his work is interwoven with boyish imagination and dreams, wishes, innovations, distant worlds and unattainable knowledge.

The staging of the exhibition – a rocket in a tower, the tower around the rocket – depicts a combination of two significant achievements of our national animation: Cow on the Moon and Game. The concept of the exhibition portrays the author’s driving force, inviting the visitors to take a sneak peek into a model of a naive, children’s, almost life-size rocket, while in fact revealing the secrets of a long-lost mind, eternalised by the legacy exhibited through toys, books, tiny details symptomatic of the author’s personal fascination that laid the foundations of the celebrated work.

The exhibition is divided into five themes: Toys, Alternative, SF, Magic Tricks and Carnival, each designed and furnished with Vukotić’s belongings, photographs, books, documentary records and films A Visit from Space (1955), Abracadabra (1957), Cowboy Jimmy (1957), Cow on the Moon (1959), Piccolo (1959), My Tail Is My Ticket (1959), The Substitute (1961), Game (1962), Opera cordis (1968), Stain on His Conscience (1968), Visitors from the Galaxy (1981).

Exhibition concept and display: David Peroš-Bonnot, Sanja Šantak

The exhibition will be open till June 13.
